Director's Message

Dear Students,

Our School, where we are excited to celebrate the 47th anniversary of its establishment as of 2022, was established in 1976 as Antalya Vocational School affiliated to the Ministry of National Education and joined Akdeniz University in 1982. In 1993, Antalya Vocational School was divided into two: the Technical Sciences Vocational School and the Social Sciences Vocational School. Therefore, our school has been continuing its educational activities as a Vocational School of Social Sciences since 1993. The campus area of our college is 27,000 m2, and the indoor area where education and training activities are carried out and the staff offices are 8,000 m2. There are a total of 89 personnel in our school, including 63 teaching staff and 26 administrative staff. With approximately 7,000 students, our college is the unit with the highest number of students in our university. Currently, in our school, education and training are carried out in a total of 27 programs, including 13 formal education programs, 13 secondary education programs, and 1 distance education program. The said programs continue in 5 blocks, 27 classrooms, 4 computer labs, and 2 multi-purpose conference halls.

Our school brings together our students, graduates, and industry stakeholders with the most rooted traditions of "Traditional Rice Day" and "Career Day", which are held every year. As the Social Sciences Vocational School family, we are happy and proud to have such a tradition in our roots. We attach great importance to protecting and maintaining traditions, institutionalization, a sense of belonging, and loyalty. In addition, another important step has been taken for our students and graduates with the Akdeniz University Vocational School of Social Sciences (SOBILMED) association that we established in 2022. Our main goal is to provide our students with the necessary high-level knowledge, skills, and competence through the education and training programs carried out in our school. In addition to ensuring that our students become qualified graduates who think analytically and quickly adapt to new formations and changes, we also attach great importance to organizing activities that will support their personal development. As it is known, the most important factor for countries to have a say in the world arises from having a qualified human workforce. At this point, Vocational Schools are seen as one of the most important institutions that contribute to creating a qualified workforce. Because in vocational education, it is essential to learn by doing, or to turn knowing into doing, vocational education focuses on completing the theoretical education with practical training and directing it toward employment.

Today, since success and competition have become more dependent on knowledge and skills, the motto of goals and expectations in vocational education is now "Not Intermediate, Wanted Staff" or "Not Intermediate, Main Staff". Considering that it is possible for our graduates to be sought-after or main personnel through school-sector cooperation, we know the importance of strong and sustainable relations with the sector and keeping the bridge between sector expectations and vocational education up-to-date in order for our students to gain qualifications that can meet the needs of the sector in vocational education.

For this reason, we find the contributions of our stakeholders, especially our sector representatives and graduates, to our updating processes in our curricula very meaningful and valuable, and we attach great importance to their contributions. We take care to update our curricula with the contributions of the Advisory Boards we have formed within our programs for the active participation of our sector representatives and stakeholders in the process, and to systematically and regularly continue our efforts to harmonize them with national and international occupational standards. I would like to thank our Rector, Prof.Dr. Özlenen ÖZKAN for her strong support for our school.

I wish you a successful career and a happy life on your journey to becoming a sought-after or main employee.

Best wishes.

Prof.Dr. Burhan ÖZKAN
Director
